Defending Premier League champions Manchester City will continue their title push on Saturday while hoping to avoid a new manager bounce from opponents Leicester City.

Pep Guardiola's team now have their fate in their own hands after title rivals Arsenal dropped points away to Liverpool last time out. With the Gunners not playing until Sunday, City can close the gap to just three points before Mikel Arteta's men travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham.

Guardiola said he aged 10 years during Tuesday night's victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but that 3-0 triumph stands his team in good stead with a return leg to come. That state of affairs may allow the Catalan to focus more keenly on domestic matters.

City won the reverse fixture back in October, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring the only goal of the game at the King Power Stadium. That result sent Leicester into the bottom three at the time, and the Foxes sit 19th heading into this weekend's clash.

The downturn in results saw Brendan Rodgers dismissed as manager at the start of April. Adam Sadler was in interim charge for the last game, a defeat at home to Bournemouth, while Dean Smith has now taken charge on a short-term deal.

“I’m really happy to have the opportunity to lead the team during these final weeks of the season," Smith said after being installed by the club. "The challenge in front of us is clear, but it’s one myself and my coaching team have experienced before and, with the quality in this squad and the number of games remaining, it’s very much achievable.

Smith has been joined by former Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare and ex-England defender John Terry as he prepares for his first game. However, the match - in front of the TV cameras - will surely be his toughest remaining task.

Man City manager Guardiola was asked about Phil Foden's availability for the game after the forward's absence. Foden withdrew from the England camp in March after suffering from appendicitis, and hasn't returned for his club in the weeks since.

“I think he feels better," Guardiola said. "I spoke with the doctors three days ago and he feels better but still he’s not ready.

“I don’t know [when he will be ready]. When he starts training you will know it from our social media and after that he will be close to coming back but still he cannot train with us.”
