Former US president Donald Trump is in New York City again today as he's set to appear in court once more - this time to face deposition in a business fraud lawsuit filed against him and his company by the state's attorney general.

In an update shared on his Truth Social platform, the business man ranted: "I will be heading downtown to meet a Racist" - referring to Attorney General Letitia James.

He went on to call the case against him "ridiculous", saying: "If I had a fair judge, this case would have never happened."

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Trump's lawyer, Alina Habba, has said the former president is "not only willing but also eager to tesitfy before the Attorney General today".

His attorney went on to say: "He remains resolute in his stance that he has nothing to conceal, and he looks forward to educating the Attorney General about the imense success of his multi-billion dollar company."

Reflecting this sentiment on Truth Social, Trump said: "The good thing about the A.G. Peekaboo James "persecution" is that I will finally be able to show what a great, profitable, and valuable company I built, actually, some of the greatest real estate assets anywhere in the world.

"Her effort, in strict coordination and association with the lying, Country killing scum "working" in the White House, and now discredited District Attorney Alvin Bragg, will prove to be FAKE, and even fraudulent. Her only hope is that she "shopped" a judge as bad as her!"

James' investigation is separate from the recent indictment faced by the former president, which saw him make an historic appearance in court last week, April 4, charged with 34 counts of felony fraud.

This latest questioning will mark his first return to New York City since his arraingment on charges relating to hush money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to bury claims of affairs which Trump denied ever happening.

Last August, just weeks before Attorney General James filed the lawsuit, Trump sat for a deposition at her office. During that encounter, he reportedly declined to answer questions, invoking his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination more than 400 times.

Trump claimed he did so as he believed the investigation was part of a "politically motivated Witch Hunt", as he throws his hat into the ring to run for president once again.

The latest in Trump's legal battles comes as he himself sues the key witness in his criminal case - once lawyer and fixer Michal Cohen.

Trump has accused him of "vast reputational harm" for talking publicly about the hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels which lie at the heart of the case.

The lawsuit accuses Mr Cohen of breaking a confidentiality agreement he signed as a condition of his employment, violating ethical standards for lawyers and "spreading flasehoods" about Trump "with malicious intent and to wholly self-seving ends".

The lawsuit is seeking more than half a billion dollars from Mr Cohen. Though lawyers for Mr Cohen have said it will not deter his cooperation with prosecutors.

Cohen's spokesperson, attorney Lanny Davis, slammed Trump's lawsuit, saying: "Mr Trump appears once again to be using and abusing the judicial system as a form of harassment and intimidation against Michael Cohen.

"It appears he is terrified by his looming legal perils and is attempting to send a message to other potential witnesses who are cooperating with prosecutors against him."

Mr Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison in 2018, and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine after pleading guilty to tax evasion and campaign-finance violations.
