Ryan Reynolds might have got more than he bargained for in the aftermath of Wrexham’s dramatic victory over Notts County - a new stepdad.

The Welsh side took a huge step towards promotion on Monday with a 3-2 victory against the East Midlands outfit. They had initially found themselves 1-0 down and eventually managed to snatch victory through a 78th-minute goal from Elliott Lee.

The drama was not done there as Ben Foster saved a late Notts County penalty to preserve the three points. That triggered wild celebrations across the Racecourse Ground, including from Reynolds’ mum Tammy, who was amongst the crowd in Wales for the crunch clash.

Wrexham captain Ben Tozer detailed the post-match celebrations in a chat with talkSPORT presenter Laura Woods and revealed that he had taken a shine to Tammy. "Ryan Reynolds' mum has been flirting with you as well, you’re her favourite," Woods told the Wrexham skipper.

Tozer replied: "Not quite her favourite, but we had a lovely hug though,” before he then left listeners in stitches with the comment: "She's not a bad looking woman at 77, it's got to be said!"

Reynolds - a star of the Deadpool franchise - has since responded with a series of social media posts. At first taking to Twitter in response to Tozer’s comments, he wrote: “Get promoted and I’ll make you my new stepdad, Tozer.”

He might have a few questions to answer first though having already seemingly promised his mum’s hand in marriage to one of Tozer's team-mates. He had previously shared a photo of Tammy and striker Ollie Palmer on his Instagram story in the aftermath of the victory over Notts County.

“@olliep9_ making all my mom’s dreams come true. #StepDad,” a caption on the post read.

Regardless of who might eventually marry his mum, Reynolds will hope that his side can finish the job and secure a place in League Two before the end of the season. Wrexham currently sit three points clear of Notts County with a game in-hand.

They have four matches of the season still to play against Barnet, Yeovil, Boreham Wood and Torquay. Should they manage to earn promotion, they will return to the Football League for the first time since 2008.

Speaking after the full-time whistle against Notts County, co-owner Reynolds said: "I'm used to working under extreme pressure, but usually I have some kind of control over it. I have nothing here, all I can do is watch and hope like everybody else.

"It was a pressure cooker coming into it for both of these teams. What both have achieved is historic on every level and I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that.”
