Mysterious line of 'white brains' washes up on UK beach leaving people baffled
A mysterious object that has been resembled to a "long line of brains" has washed up onto a British beach.
It is the latest in the long line of strange creatures that have appeared on beaches up and down the country including some that wouldn't look out of place in a sci-fi movie.
People have said they saw what looked like a "long line of brains" on an Anglesey beach last week, reported WalesOnline.
Spotted at Traeth Mawr in Aberffraw by a couple from Beaumaris, who were out walking their dogs, the lumps of unidentified white matter had both of them scratching their heads.
After posting a pic of their find on social media, people soon started weighing in with opinions about what the "brains" could be. Posting their theories on Facebook, some speculated that it was just shapes formed by sea foam.
Paranormal and alien believers are 'less likely to get a good night's sleep'But one of the most popular suggestions was that the mass could be whelk egg capsules.
The common whelk is the largest sea snail found in UK seas and the dry balls of empty whelk capsules are often found washed up in line-like formations.
According to The Wildlife Trust, whelk live on sandy seabeds below the low tide mark and lay their eggs in a spongy mass of up to 2,000 egg capsules on the seabed. Once hatched, these balls of empty egg capsules often wash up on shore.
Other unusual discoveries on UK beaches have included large clumps of rare goose neck barnacles that turned up on the shores of Pembrokeshire last year.
Considered a delicacy in some European countries, their long, pink, worm-like tentacles probably still seemed more extra-terrestrial than tasty to most of us here.
And a mysterious sea creature with a spiked tail puzzled locals after washing up dead on a beach in Littlehampton, West Sussex.
Marilyn Inglis, 72, came across the "alien-like" animal during a stroll last year and she has since noted its striking resemblance to another creature pictured along the coast of Dorset in December.
Both animals have a translucent head - similar to that of a jellyfish - and at least two fins of varying sizes with a long tail.
Each of the bodies are dark grey in colour, while the one found in Sussex appears to have spikes running from its head all the way down its spine.
Marilyn told the Mirror: "You don't see too many things like that - we just stood there looking at it for a while. It appeared alien-like. I've shown the pictures to loads of people but no one seemed to know what it could be.
