A woman is furious with her husband for ruining the half term break after he spent money they had saved for the trip on renewing their parking permit. The family had been due to spend a couple of nights away in a hotel and see family but now she is fuming he ruined this without discussing things with her first.

The mum had saved some cash for food, hotel and fuel, but the dad decided to take matters into his own hands and spent the money on renewing their permit which did not need to be done for another two weeks.

Taking to Mumsnet, the frustrated mum was raging at what her husband did and claimed he spends too much without thinking about it and he should have spoken to her about it first.

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "Meant to be going away for a couple of nights in a hotel & to see family. Me & the kids were looking forward to a mini break after a difficult few months. I had set aside money to pay for fuel, hotel & food.

"My husband texts me today to tell me (without any discussion) that he has spent the money renewing our annual parking permit which doesn’t need renewing for two weeks."

The mum added that she had budgeted for the parking permit spend in two weeks which was due to come out of her salary so she was particularly fuming that he did this without talking to her.

She said: "He knows we are going away & now he’s ruined half term. He just spends with no thought for our budget, for half term, for anything."

The response from others on the forum has been split with some seeing why she is annoyed but others saying he has just paid a bill that needed to be paid.

One person wrote: "I can see why you’re annoyed. He should have discussed it with you because that’s what you do in a family unit. You have the right to be angry at him for a few hours!"

While another said: "It's bad that you had it in hand and he's gone over your head though. It sounds like he just doesn't want to go (assuming he was invited)."

However, others were less sympathetic as one wrote: "Paying a bill just before it is due doesn’t really class as going rogue surely?"

Somebody else stated: "It does seem like a massive non-issue though. Get a credit card, put the holiday on that, pay it off in two weeks time with the money budgeted for the parking permit."
