Lidl shopper, 80, injured after being 'pushed' by man in supermarket queue

A pensioner was left needing days of hospital treatment after an alleged supermarket assault.

An 80-year-old man was shopping with his wife in Stockton Lidl on Sunday, March 19, when the incident took place.

The couple were waiting in the queue to pay for their items at around 2.05pm when he was reportedly pushed by another man, causing him to fall over.

The suspect then left the Tower Street store, making off onto Stockton High Street.

The alleged victim suffered a fracture to his hip following the incident and was hospitalised for several days at the University Hospital of North Tees, reports Teesside Live.

Cleveland Police are now appealing to identify the suspect, who is described as a white male, aged late sixties to early seventies and around 5ft 8in tall.

He has grey hair, which is balding at the top and was wearing glasses, a dark coat, and a white or cream jumper with a black collared shirt underneath.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police are appealing after a man was left with a fractured hip in an assault in Lidl, Stockton. The incident happened in the Tower Street store around 2.05pm on Sunday, March 19.

"A man, aged 80, was waiting to be served in company with his wife when another man pushed him, causing him to fall over and fracture his hip. The man spent a number of days at the University Hospital of North Tees whilst receiving treatment.

"The suspect then left the store and made off on to Stockton High Street. He is described as a white male, aged late sixties to early seventies, 5ft 8” tall, with grey hair which was balding at the top, wearing glasses, a dark coat with a white or cream jumper underneath and a black collared shirt under the jumper.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting incident number SE23052287.
