Brook breaks silence on Khan ban for failing drugs test - "It's a f****** joke"

Kell Brook has taken aim at Amir Khan after it emerged that his rival failed a drugs test following their bout in February of last year.

The former world champions settled their years-long feud at the AO Arena in Manchester well over a year ago. But it wasn't until hearing reports in the press on Tuesday, April 4, that Brook learned of a failed drugs test that has resulted in his final opponent being slapped with a two-year ban.

Khan has protested his innocence, even claiming that his sub-par performance in being knocked out in the sixth round was evidence that he couldn't have been using performance enhancing drugs. But Brook is furious that he entered the ring with someone who has since returned a positive result for the anabolic agent ostarine, telling IFL TV that he "feels sick" about the situation.

"I heard about it today, I heard about it when everyone else heard about it," Brook said. "What I'm disgusted about is that it's been over a year since we boxed and finding out that this guy has been cheating in the fight that we had. It makes me feel sick... After seeing and hearing about this today he's been straight away unfollowed [on social media]. I've got three beautiful kids and he's gone in there to try and hurt me on some kind of drug what he's been on [sic]. It's a f***ing joke."

Khan has claimed that while he accepts the charge, he never knowingly ingested ostarine in an effort to enhance his performance. Speaking with Sky Sports, he noted that he was the one during the pre-fight build-up pushing for stricter and more frequent testing on the pair, and insisted that the amounts in his system may have come from shaking people's hands.

"I’ve never cheated, I’m a retired fighter," Khan said. "You can see by my performance against Kell Brook. I lost the fight. If I went in there and knocked Brook out it’s different. I’ve never cheated in my life. I’m the one who wanted the testing on the fight. The amount in my system, could have been from shaking peoples hands. I don’t know what the drug was in my system."

But Brook is unconvinced, telling the outlet that it's a common strategy for people to claim they unknowingly ingested a substance after being caught. "His back's against the wall," Brook continued. "It's the same thing with everyone that's been caught out they didn't know and it was this or that.

"At the end of the day, it was in you and you were going in that fight with a drug to enhance you and hurting me in a sport you can legally get killed in. It's not about he didn't know, it's in your system. You know exactly what's in your system and you've gone in there with bad intentions to hurt me bad and win the fight at all costs which has come back and bit him in the a*** bad."

A statement from UK Anti-Doping confirmed Khan's ban, stating: "Professional boxer and Olympic medallist Amir Khan has been banned from all sport for two years following Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) for the presence and use of a Prohibited Substance.

"On February 19, 2022, UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) collected an In-Competition urine Sample from Mr Khan after his fight against Kell Brook at the Manchester Arena. Mr Khan's Sample returned an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) for ostarine. Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM). The substance is listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) 2022 Prohibited List as an anabolic agent and is prohibited in sport at all times."
