Opening a glass jar is a tricky task for most of us - whether you attempt to use elbow grease, a cloth, or tap it, there's a whole host of tricks out there.

But a newfound hack has left people questioning why they've ever struggled to twist open jars for "no reason", when there's a very quick and easy solution.

The trend on TikTok sees foodies using bottle openers on unopened jars, which helps to relieve the pressure and allows you to unscrew the lid with ease.

One viral video has racked up 3 million views on the social media platform, showing a TikToker attempting to open a jar of red peppers with the trick.

The original clip is captioned: "I was 36 years old when I realised..." and shows a woman using a bottle opener on the edge of a glass jar.

The TikToker called Anna reposted it on her account @anna.antonje and thanked the lady for the "nice" hack.

In the video, Anna attempts to screw the black lid off but fails, then picks up the metal tool and gives it a go again afterwards.

She looks astounded as it clicks open without any tension and proves the trick is a success.

Among the 82,000 comments, one person said: "I was in my 40s when my son who was 10 at the time showed me this... all those years I struggled opening jars for no reason."

Another agreed: "47 and just found out" while a third commented: "I just learned something and I am in my 70s".

"I've known this for a while now and it works. You can do the same thing with pickle jars, they have a little red dot where you can do it," a user advised.

Though someone else said: "Who doesn't know this?" and another put: "I've been doing this with a knife since I was six years old. Logically, you let the air out, lower the pressure and it's easy to open."

"So you're telling me I don't need my husband anymore," one TikToker joked, a chef said: "A spoon also does this."
