Britney Spears' family and friends are said to have been in talks to host an intervention for the singer, but later decided it was "unnecessary".

Those close to the 41-year-old pop star are said to have become scared that "she's gonna die" amid reports she has been "flying off the handle".

Those involved in the intervention included her husband Sam Asghari, her manager and doctors. It had been scheduled for Tuesday, but plans were eventually scrapped, according to reports.

Britney recently hit out at claims that she is "having a breakdown" and said she has never felt better.

"Nope I’m not having a breakdown … I am who I am and moving forward in my life. I have never felt better," the Toxic hitmaker wrote on Instagram.

A source close to the star has now said the intervention never took place because it was "unnecessary" and said Britney is currently "fine".

"Unfortunately, there is a lot of hysteria in the media right now, but Britney is fine, and much of this has been overblown and grossly distorted," the insider told PageSix.

According to TMZ, Britney's manager had rented a house in Los Angeles, with her loved ones planning to take the star to the house to convince her to seek help for any mental health struggles.

According to the publication, the plan was for Britney to live in the property for as long as two months while she received medical treatment.

Sources told them Britney had agreed to meet with a doctor on Wednesday afternoon and it is said to have "went well".

The claims come after Britney was forced to issue a lengthy statement after fans called the police to her house following concerns for her well-being.

Britney said she felt like she had been "gaslit and bullied" and said she hopes the public will respect her privacy moving forward.

Taking to Twitter, Britney said: "As everyone knows the police were called to my home based on some prank phone calls.

"I love and adore my fans but this time things went a little too far and my privacy was invaded.

"The police never entered my home and when they came to my gate they quickly realized there was no issue and left immediately.

"This felt like I was being gaslit and bullied once the incident made it to the news and being portrayed once again in a poor and unfair light by the media."

The star concluded with: "During this time in my life, I truly hope the public and my fans who I care so much about can respect my privacy moving forward. All the love, B."
