A flight attendant has warned holidaymakers to always avoid the hot chocolate from the drinks trolley on flights.

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are widely considered to be the golden trio of hot beverages, both on solid land and when flying at 30,000 feet.

Flight attendant Deja, who posts videos on TikTok as @i.amdejaa, recognises this fact, but believes that they should be avoided nonetheless.

"When you are travelling on an aeroplane please don't drink coffee or tea," she said, also adding hot chocolate onto the 'no drink' list.

The flight attendant claimed that the "water tanks on the aeroplane are never cleaned, and they are very disgusting".

Instead, she suggested passengers make their own hot drinks in the airport.

One way to enjoy a beverage without thinking about the grime that may be lurking in the plane's tank is to get a cup of hot water before the flight, she advises.

Passengers can do so at the terminal after going through security, so you should have no trouble in terms of liquid allowances.

Holidaymakers can go to any coffee shop or restaurant in the airport, such as Starbucks, and ask for hot water, which will be provided for free.

You can then add your own sachet of coffee or hot chocolate, or drop in a tea bag, if you've remembered to bring it with you.

However, it's worth noting that some airlines' policies mean that they won't let you board the plane with a full hot drink - so check the rules before you head to the gate!

Flight attendant Cierra agrees with Deja, saying that "unless we are super desperate, we will not drink the coffee or tea that's supplied on the plane.

"The water that we use for the coffee and the tea comes from the same water tank and guess what, it never gets cleaned.

"Although airlines may tell passengers they do 'regular' water tests, we are told that it's about six to nine months for one test on one plane to happen.

"And they are not going to clean up that tank unless they find something."
