Two men were shot and killed in separate shootings in villages six miles apart on Wednesday night. The victims were named locally as Josh Dunmore, 32, and father Gary Dunmore, 57.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder following the shootings in Cambridgeshire.

Detectives say they are actively investigating whether the incident is connected to an ongoing custody battle.

Police were called to the village of Bluntisham shortly after 9pm where the body of a 32-year-old man was found inside a house with a gunshot wound.

Minutes later, police got a call at 9.37pm from a person in Sutton, near Ely, also reporting hearing gunshots.

The body of a 57-year-old man with gunshot wounds was found at a property in the village.

Both victims have since been named locally as Josh, 32, and Gary Dunmore, 57, who ran a building company together.

Floral tributes have begun to pile up near police cordon tape at Meridian Close in Bluntisham.

One of the tributes left in Bluntisham said: “Josh, you shined such a bright light over everyone around you.

“It was impossible not to smile when you’re around.

“You’re going to be missed so much.”

Another said “rest easy Josh”, adding: “Your son was a very lucky boy to have a dad like you.

“Your bubbly personality will be dearly missed.”

Locals started paying tributes to the "kind and gentle man" Gary Dunmore.

Neighbour Nicole Pond lived next to Gary for two years with her husband and dog before moving away last year.

The life coach said: "He had his own building company with his son. He was very nice, kind and kept to himself. I often borrowed tools from him and we would chat. He was always happy to help us out when I asked for anything."

Paul Nobbs, Gary's landlord of 10 years said: "Gary lived there for maybe a decade. I knew him well, he was a very nice guy. A really placid, nice guy. He was never any hassle."

Detective chief superintendent Jon Hutchinson, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "Working with local residents and family members we quite quickly established that the two victims were related and they were father and son."

He said that the "primary line of investigation" was that the incident related to a "familial issue".

"It's been widely reported in the media that this may relate to a custody battle," he said. "I can confirm that is an active line of inquiry for us."

A 27-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, who police say were from the local area, were arrested at a hotel just outside Cambridge.

A 66-year-old man was arrested by armed officers on the motorway in the Worcester area in the early hours of Thursday.

"Following his arrest his vehicle was searched and I can confirm we have recovered a firearm," Mr Hutchinson said.

Police are investigating whether the firearm was legally owned.
