Tyson Fury 's promoter has revealed the Brit lost almost $2million trying to avoid his third fight against Deontay Wilder.

Heavyweight champion Fury, 34, decisively settled his rivalry with Wilder in October 2021 by brutally knocking him in their trilogy fight. It marked Fury's second stoppage win over 'The Bronze Bomber' after winning their February 2020 rematch by knockout, with the pair fighting to a controversial draw in their first fight.

'The Gypsy King' tried his best to avoid a third meeting with Wilder in order to make an undisputed heavyweight title fight against domestic rival Anthony Joshua. The undisputed clash was agreed on for August of that year, but an arbitration judge ruled that Fury must fight Wilder for the third time instead. Frank Warren has now revealed the ordeal saw Fury lose nearly $2million in unsuccessfully fighting the case.

"The rematch clause with Deontay Wilder, [we] didn't want it," Warren told talkSPORT. "It happened, the legal advice was that it expired which it hadn't. If you remember at the time, people were saying the fight was on with Tyson and Joshua and I again had these conversations. [Eddie] Hearn kept saying it was on and I kept saying it wouldn't be until it was signed because of the legal problem.

"What happened with the rematch clause first of all with Wilder is that they enforced it and it's for the loser to enforce, not the winner. Wilder asked for it, then it went to court before a judge. In the meantime all these things went on about how the fight between Tyson and Joshua was on for the Middle East.

"In the meantime this judge is sitting there getting p***ed off because he knows it's his decision and that's what he did, so therefore we lost out. So the logic behind this was for Tyson was he doesn't want to go down that road because it cost him almost $2million in legal fees fighting that. If it's a great fight, you can make a rematch anyway. That was the logic behind it."

Wilder has since hinted at a fourth meeting against Fury, with the Brit's dad John fearing that Wilder could be " killed " if the quadrilogy takes place. Fury's collapsed undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk has opened the door for a long-awaited fight against Joshua, who fights Jermaine Franklin this Saturday. Joshua thinks " it's now or never " for his fight with Fury to take place given its past cancellations.
