Ada Wong campaign could come to Resident Evil 4 remake as DLC
Separate Ways was suspiciously left absent from the recently released Resident Evil 4 remake, but a datamine suggests that the cut campaign could soon be restored.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is a whole lot of game for a single-player only experience. Leon S. Kennedy’s mission to save the president’s daughter is full of new twists and turns, with sections and puzzles previously not present in the original added in by Capcom to see most first-time players clocking in at well over 12 hours. We already knew Resident Evil DLC is coming by way of fan-favourite mode, The Mercenaries, as a free update, but that might not be the last of it.
Dataminers have been hard at work digging deep into the game’s code, uncovering something in the PS4 version of the remake that might possibly mean Separate Ways – a side story featuring Resident Evil 4’s Ada Wong – might soon be added. So suggests user @ResiEvilCentral in a tweet, who posted an image from the RE Wiki Discord that makes reference to something called 'Another Order' hidden deep in the game's files.
Another Order, for those unaware, was the name of the Separate Ways DLC in the original Japanese version of Resident Evil 4. In it, players get to take on the role of Ada Wong as part of a side story that runs parallel to the base game’s main events. It was absent from the recent remake, though this new datamine seemingly indicates that it could come as DLC to the game at a later date; or that it at least was planned to be included at one point.
Assignment Ada
Resident Evil 4 is already a great game in its own right. But in light of the possibility that the Ada DLC Separate Ways might soon be added, I won’t complain about having yet another reason to dive back in. Ada is one of the game’s most mysterious characters, reprising her role from Resident Evil 2 in a way that shows a deeper bond between her and Leon.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingAnyone who has finished the recent remake knows that the ending (involving Ada) plays out extremely differently than in the Nintendo GameCube original. For that reason, who’s to say that Separate Ways might not play out differently, too?
The real question is if Capcom will add Ada’s story to the game as free DLC similar to The Mercenaries or charge for it. There’s precedent for both eventualities, with Resident Evil: Village’s Shadow of Rose DLC being paid-for. There's no official word from Capcom and the existence of the files is no guarantee of anything. None of the other remade titles has DLC when they originally launched so how Capcom treats the Resident Evil 4 Ada DLC will be interesting – especially if the remakes continue.
