Fans of Daisy Jones & The Six have been left feeling very emotional thanks to the book's author revealing an alternative ending to the hit novel.

Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel about a fictional rock band quickly became the 'IT book' of the year when it was released back in 2019, with actress Reese Witherspoon quickly snapping up the rights to bring the characters to life on screen.

Riley Keough, grandaughter of Elvis Presley, played Daisy in Amazon's streaming adaptation, with Sam Claflin as Billy Dunne and Suki Waterhouse as Karen Sirko taking on starring roles as members of The Six.

Following the final episode of the ten-part series dropping on Amazon Prime on Friday, Reid took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the TV adaption of her hit book and offer fans an alternative conclusion.

She told her 392,000 followers: "I’m still tender and a little bruised from the ending of this show — maybe I’m finally getting a taste of my own medicine.

"But this little bit of the original ending of the book makes me smile. So if you’re wishing there was more of this story, here’s a little more."

In an accompanying video, Taylor explained how the original ending to Daisy Jones & The Six was "very, very similar but had a little more information" but it didn't make the final cut.

"I stand by that, I don't think you need it, but I came across it recently and it made me really happy to read," Taylor added.

"So I hope it might make you happy to read too."

The bestselling author then shared two emails between characters from her book - something which sent fans of the saga into a meltdown.

Daisy Jones & The Six - both the book and the TV adaption - sees Billy Dunne chose wife Camila Alvarez over bandmate Daisy Jones and enjoy a happy family life with their young daughter.

Toward the end of the finale, readers and viewers learn that Camila eventually dies from health-complications, leaving Billy as a widower who eventually goes on to reconnect with Daisy.

While both the book and the TV show make it clear Camila approved of her husband moving on following her death, the alternative ending adds a little more to the conclusion.

In the emails shared to author Taylor's Instagram page on Sunday, fans learned how originally Camila (played by Leonardo Di Caprio's ex Camila Morrone) emails Daisy prior to her death and encourages her to reconnect with Billy.

"Ok heartbroken again how could you do this to me," one Instagram user commented underneath the snaps of the email.

"This made me cry harder than the actual book, which is a feat in itself," another added, as a third declared: "For god's sake when will you stop making me cry with this story????????"

"this made me even more miserable, but thanks," one Daisy Jones & The Six fan joking told the author in the comments.
