Andrew Lloyd Webber announced his son Nick Lloyd Webber has died from gastric cancer.

Nick passed away following an 18-month-long battle with cancer and was only 43 years old.

"I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital," Andrew said in an emotional statement.

"His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft. Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time."

Two days ago, the Oscar-winning composer said Nick was moved to a hospice.

He previously revealed Nick, who is also a composer, was “critically ill” as a result of his “ghastly” cancer.

Nick was also nominated for a Grammy for a musical theatre album alongside his father, Greg Wells and David Zippel for Lord Lloyd-Webber’s Cinderella.

He worked on the BBC One series Love, Lies and Records. He also scored the 2021 feature film The Last Bus.

He tied the knot with viola player Polly Wiltshire in 2018.

Last week, Andrew said his son was hospitalised 18 months ago after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Andrew went on to explain how his son's illness was the reason he wasn't able to attend the Broadway launch of his latest musical, Bad Cinderella.

The legendary composer said: "I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on Opening night."
