James Corden's replacement on the 'Late Late Show' has been the subject of much speculation, but it has been reported that CBS will scrap the show entirely when the Brit wraps his final episode in the spring.

Deadline reports that CBS will ditch the show and instead reboot the Comedy Central panel game show 'Midnight' to take the prime slot.

While CBS have not confirmed the news, Deadline reports that the new show will likely be produced by Stephen Colbert, who hosts The Late Show, which airs in the hour just before Corden's slot.

The Late Late Show first aired in 1995 with host Tom Snyder. Hosts Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson were followed by the surprise hire of Corden, a British comedy figure almost entirely unknown to a US audience.

He quickly endeared himself to viewers with the introduction of popular segments like ' Carpool Karaoke ' and 'Crosswalk the Musical'.

Adele's appearance in Carpool Karaoke has garnered 260 million views on YouTube. Other musical stars appearing in the segment include Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran and One Direction.

Corden has hosted the show since 2015 and in 2016 won the Critics' Choice Award for 'Best Talk Show'. The show has also been nominated for several Emmys.

It hasn't been all plain sailing for Corden, however.

In October last year he allegedly berated staff at a New York restaurant, leading to him being barred from the establishment. He later apologised for the incident.

Then, Corden came under fire for using a joke on the show originally written by fellow comic Ricky Gervais.
