Glee star Lea Michele has asked for "love and strength" after her two-year-old son was taken to hospital with a "scary health issue" on Wednesday.

Lea, 36, shared the heartbreaking news on her Instagram Stories as she posted a snap of her hand resting on the arm of her son, Ever, beside a teddy bear.

The actress, who came to prominence as Rachel Berry in the hit musical comedy drama Glee between 2009 and 2015, explained to her 7.9 million followers on the social media platform that she was forced to pull out of her performance of Funny Girl on Broadway as a result.

Lea plays Fanny Bryce in Funny Girl and the musical's official Instagram account also confirmed her absence from Wednesday's shows.

The statement read: "Lea Michele will be out of both the matinee and evening performance today, Wednesday, March 22. Julie Benko will be your fabulous Fanny!"

Last month, Lea was accused of shading her former Glee co-star Chris Colfer and "fake crying" when an unearthed clip went viral on social media.

The video in question came from Chris' acceptance speech after he won Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series at 2011's Golden Globe Awards and they noticed something strange about Lea's reaction.

In a clip shared on TikTok, Chris stood on stage as he shared his disbelief at winning before the camera cut to an overwhelmed Lea.

When the actress is first seen, she is proudly watching her co-star with a hand on her chest, but quickly starts to take dramatic breaths and wipes her eyes.

Over the top of the video, the TikTok user wrote: "Lea Michele was fake crying when she realized the camera cut to her."

In the caption they added: "I was just trying to re-enjoy his win fr fr."

However, fans were quick to agree with the accusation as they flocked to the comments section.
