Wrexham star Paul Mullin has opened up on his relationship with owner Ryan Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney following a successful start to life in north Wales.

The Hollywood duo bought the club in February 2021 and have since turned The Red Dragons into one of the best non-league sides as they chase promotion back to the Football League. During their first full season, Wrexham finished second but lost in the play-off semi-final against Grimsby.

They also reached the FA Trophy final, but lost that 1-0 to Bromley at Wembley. However, Wrexham could go one better in the National League this season as they currently sit top, three points above Notts County.

Mullin, who is the division's second highest scorer with 31 goals, has revealed that Reynolds and McElhenney often speak to the Wrexham players on WhatsApp. The 28-year-old also praised the Hollywood pair for what they have achieved during their short time at the club so far.

In an interview with GOAL, Mullin said: "They [Reynolds and McElhenney] are very accessible. They said that to me, if you ever want a chat or to speak to us, you can do. They do keep in touch with all the lads.

"They do give us messages throughout the season, after most games. They like to keep in touch, ask how the family is, ask how my little lad is, which is very good. They really care about the club and want to do the best they can. Obviously a big part of that for them is making sure that the players and staff feel like they are worthy to the club and equal to them – that’s how they make everyone feel."

Mullin made the switch to North Wales in 2021 after rejecting a new contract at Cambridge United. He had scored a whopping 32 goals in League Two, but decided to move down to non-league with Wrexham.

He has been excellent since, netting a staggering 72 times in 89 matches and has been key to Wrexham's promotion push as they aim to return to the fourth tier for the first time since 2008.

The presence of Reynolds and McElhenney may be something that tempted Mullin to move to Wrexham - and he has opened up about finding himself in the spotlight with more media presence and cameras.

He added: "At first it’s a bit different - you walk out the changing room and there are cameras there and sometimes if the owners come over, there is a bit of hysteria around the place and pandemonium at times, but as a player it’s enjoyable.

"You go to work everyday and it’s exciting for something new to happen that many clubs don’t get opportunities like we’ve had here. You get introduced to things that people never thought they would be introduced to.

"It’s enjoyable and the owners always make us feel as comfortable as we can, in situations they are there if we need them and it’s great playing for them. But we focus on the football and let everybody else talk about the Hollywood actor and the Hollywood hysteria around the club."
