Two teenagers have died in a sledding accident while on holiday, officials have said.

The boys, aged 17 and 18, were celebrating spring break in Colorado, US, when the tragic accident occurred.

According to the local sheriff's office, the boys were out enjoying the snow at Copper Mountain Ski Resort on Sunday night.

The two had been riding tandem when they "launched off a large snowbank at the bottom of the half pipe" before they "came down hard on the hard ice".

Onlookers rushed to their aid but they were sadly pronounced dead at the scene after suffering the blunt force trauma.

Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends of the individuals involved in this tragic incident."

Dustin Lyman, Copper Mountain's president and general manager, said: "The entire team at Copper Mountain is deeply saddened by this tragic incident.

"Our most sincere condolences go out to the affected families and friends. We are also thankful to our local emergency responders, for their quick response and the medical assistance provided."

The boys' identities have not yet been revealed.

The shocking incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning in Miami, Florida, US, as thousands of young people flocked to the city to celebrate Spring Break.

In a police report of the incident, an officer wrote that the suspect, who has been identified as Dontavious Leonard Polk, a 24-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, had allegedly shot the victim "without any type of provocation".

The footage shows the suspected shooter walking along with throngs of other people before appearing to pull a gun from his waistband and open fire.
