A pensioner who suffered a severe bout of road rage before chasing and knocking a motorcyclist down has been jailed.

Graham Robinson, 69, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and obstructing police and was sentenced to eight months behind bars for knocking biker Liam Guest down.

Prosecuting, barrister Rosemary Proctor told Caernarfon Crown Court that a woman heard a “terrific bang” outside her home on August 5 last year.

She went outside to find her fence broken, a motorbike on the ground and Robinson's blue car in vegetation.

The incident was caught on the pensioner's Renault Kadjar’s dashcam, which Robinson lied about to police, saying it was broken and not in his car.

Minutes before the incident, Robinson had been crossing the bridge from Rhyl to Kinmel Bay with Guest behind him.

Counsel said the following events were disputed, but that as Guest overtook Robinson, from Kinmel Bay, North Wales, he called him a "p***k" and spat.

"I am going to knock you off your bike," Robinson is reported to have said.

The dashcam footage indicates Guest was then pursued by Robison where he reached 50mph on side roads and 40mph on a dirt track.

He then collided with the biker and Guest has since complained of being cut and grazed and suffering flashbacks.

Proctor added: "There was a substantial risk of danger in particular to Mr Guest and those in their gardens next to the dirt path."

Simon Killeen, defending, said what Robinson did was "completely out of character”. The pensioner has no previous convictions.

Killeen said Guest struck Robinson's wing mirror, who then made an "appalling" decision to go after the biker.

He added: “He’s highly unlikely to be back before this court again.”

On behalf of Robinson, Killeen said he was under additional stress because of his wife's illness at the time.

Judge Timothy Petts said there was strong personal mitigation and he didn’t pose a risk to the public. But he told the pensioner he’d used his car “as a weapon against a vulnerable road user.”

The judge added that Robinson used his vehicle in a "grossly disproportionate way".

He said to Robinson: “For anyone to use their car as a weapon as you were doing to settle a grudge with a more vulnerable road user is highly dangerous and the sentence has to reflect that. You were driving completely out of control.

"It’s no thanks to you the injuries were not more serious than they were."
