Killer boasts he 'knows what happened' to police as he returns to murder scene

This is the chilling moment a smiling killer tells police he "knows what happened" as he returns to the scene of a murder he committed just hours beforehand.

Marek Hecko, 26, was jailed for life after stabbing 44-year-old Adrian Ellingford to death at a home in Chelmsford, Essex last summer.

The victim was found with two knife wounds, including one so brutal that it damaged and cut a bone in his chest.

Mr Ellingford was with a former partner of Hecko’s on the night of his death, the jury heard, and Hecko is said to have exhibited stalking behaviours toward her.

The jury took less than a day to convict Hecko of murder following a four-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

During the trial, Hecko claimed he had returned to the property after seeing the news - despite information of the incident being nowhere online or on social media at that point, reports Essex Live.

As shown on police bodycam footage, he then explained to a female officer that he "knows what happened" inside the home.

In the clip, an intoxicated Hecko - seen holding a bottle of alcohol - said: "I'm looking for her (his ex-girlfriend), I can help her. I can help with what's going on."

He later said: "I know what happened. I know the people there involved. I'm not going to tell you my name, I don't give a f***.

"I know what happened and you need me to figure out what happened. If you don't have me, you won't know what happened.

"I just know that some guy came here and f***** up some guy. I don't know what happened. He just got f***** up. You're going to think it's me but it's not me as there's no proof. I know what happened.

"This city is mine. This city is f****ing mine."

Hecko is frequently seen smiling as he discussed the offence with the officer.

Throughout the trial, Hecko claimed innocence and said that he was out in the early hours of July 25 to search for cocaine he had lost - Judge Morgan called this a "clear lie".

He was arrested by police after becoming confrontational. While in custody, he was identified as the main suspect and charged with murder within a few days.

Yesterday, he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 26 years after being found guilty of murder unanimously by a jury.

Before passing sentence, Judge Morgan told Hecko: "The evidence to the jury demonstrate very clearly that you had not moved on and you were an individual who was finding it difficult to emotionally distangle yourself from her and that has resulted in the death of an entirely innocent man."

In a victim personal statement read out in court, Mr Ellingford's wife paid tribute to her "amazing husband, loving son, a caring brother, a friend to many and most importantly a truly brilliant father."

Following Hecko's sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe described the stabbing as a "senseless attack" which has "left two children without a father".

She said: "From the moment this was declared a murder investigation, our team worked tirelessly to gather CCTV, statements and compile the evidence needed to charge Hecko.

"Despite the huge amount of work going on behind the scenes, we made supporting Adrian’s family a priority, and our family liaison officers have done an incredible job from the start.

"This was a senseless attack on Adrian, which has left two children without a father.

"I hope that they can move forward and find some closure now that Hecko is behind bars."
