Bad dog! Jonathan Ross called police to his Hampstead home, believing he was being burgled - but discovered his elderly, deaf dog had been chasing mice.

The TV host says the family have had to adjust to their older dog’s quirks.

“If he can’t see us in the house he makes a horrible noise,” he laughs. “We locked the bedroom door, because we thought there was a man in the house. We’d heard him shout.

“There was another time we called the police and they actually came to the door. We worked out... we think it was mice.”

Poor Professor Snowball, Jonathan’s ageing French bulldog, is really in the wars.

“He’s completely deaf,” Jonathan tells Jack Dee and Seann Walsh on their Oh My Dog! podcast, out on Monday.

“He’s pretty old now, so he won’t have that much longer. Because he seems a little confused by life, his quality of life isn’t as great as it might have been.

“We can’t let him off the lead, because he’s deaf, so if he runs off we can’t call him.”

Fortunately, he will never leave the family. Jonathan reveals their dearly departed former dogs are still with them, as he has them cremated and put in boxes, which sit on their piano.

Dog gone, but never forgotten.
