Fatboy Slim showed his support for Gary Lineker by paying 'respect' to the broadcaster during his live performance.

The 62-year-old Match of the Day host's face appeared as part of the visual effects during his set on Friday night.

Fans cheers as the gig at Manchester's O2 Victoria Warehouse took an unexpected turn as the presenter lit up the stage.

Turning to applaud the footy pundit, he told the crowd to do the same as he prompted support for the star.

One recorded the moment and the DJ - real name Normal Cook - uploaded the clip to his own twitter account.

"Enough respect #ImWithGary @GaryLineker," he captioned the video.

Other faces including Greta Thunberg and Prince were included as part of his show.

Gary has been hauled over the coals by BBC bosses following his tweet about the government's asylum policies.

He likened the Home Office’s plans to ‘Germany in the 30s’ and refused to back down.

He tweeted critically about the 'Stop the Boats' policy earlier this week, leading to a backlash from Conservatives and the right wing media.

The presenter was suspended from the BBC for breaching impartiality guidelines, but in a dramatic escalation the broadcaster has been met with a major backlash from several of his Match of the Day colleagues who will boycott tonight's programme.

The fall out continues as fans rage over Gary's treatment as the former Spurs star stays silent on twitter.

A BBC spokesperson said he would be off air until an agreement was reached on his future use of social media

A statement read said: “Some of our pundits have said that they don’t wish to appear on the programme while we seek to resolve the situation with Gary.

“We understand their position and we have decided that the programme will focus on match action without studio presentation or punditry.”

Lineker confirmed to Channel 5 News anchor Dan Walker last night that it was not his decision to step back, telling Walker "they [the BBC] have told me I have to step back" via Whatsapp as the former Strictly star presented the news live on air.

Gary described the government's new Migration Bill as "beyond awful" after it was unveiled by home secretary Suella Braverman on Tuesday - later adding: "This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s."

The presenter refused to delete the tweet or apologise, leading to the BBC issuing a statement earlier today.
