Since the beginning of the year, a number of major supermarkets have announced wage increases for their staff

The cost of living crisis has hit millions hard and calls for wage increases have come from all retail and hospitality sectors as workers' pay is solely based on the hours they work.

Several supermarkets have decided to up the wages they pay in response to the rising cost of living.

The National Living Wage, which is set at £9.50 but will rise to £10.42 in April, is an "obligatory" minimum wage businesses pay workers in the UK aged 23 and over for each hour they work.

However, the UK "Real Living Wage", which is calculated based on the cost of living, is currently £10.90 across the UK and £11.95 in London.
