Detectives in East Yorkshire have charged a man with murder after a 59-year-old woman was found fatally injured.

Helen Harrison, 59, died on Sunday after officers were called to a house in the small town of Market Weighton, between York and Hull, with fears for her safety.

Helen was pronounced dead at the scene and was named by family members on Wednesday.

A 39-year-old man was due to appear in court on Thursday after he was charged with Helen's murder.

Rich Parker, from Market Weighton, was also charged with actual bodily harm in connection to an attack on a man earlier last month, on Sunday February 19, Humberside Police said.

The force said it also referred the case onto the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), due to having previous contact with Helen.

Tributes paid to Ms Harrison, who was reportedly a hairdresser and keen Morris dancer, according to the community, described her as "beautiful", and as having a "lovely" personality.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We were called to reports of a concern for safety at a property on Aspen Close in Market Weighton on Sunday 5 March.

"Upon attending, sadly it was discovered that Helen had sustained fatal injuries.

"Due to previous contact we had with the victim, a mandatory referral has been made to the IOPC."

Parker appeared before Hull magistrates on Thursday and was remanded into custody.
