Daniel Jones received advice from his former mentor and teammate Eli Manning before signing his huge extension.

The New York Giants brought an end to a potential quarterback saga between Jones and themselves when they agreed to sign Daniel Jones to a new four-year extension deal.

Jones became one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league with the new deal, in a huge show of trust to the 25-year-old. Drafted with the sixth pick overall in 2019, Jones had not lived up to expectations in his first three seasons. But his fourth year was by far the best to date, having been paired with new head coach Brian Daboll, who won coach of the year after transforming the Giants into a playoff team.

The parties agreed on a four-year, $160m contract with $35m in incentives with Jones being the fifth highest-paid player in the league, behind only Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott and Patrick Mahomes.

And ahead of signing the deal, Jones spoke with Giants legend Eli Manning, it has been confirmed. Reporter for the New York Giants' official website, Matt Citak, stated: "Jones said he spoke with Eli Manning since the end of the season about this negotiation process. Eli told him to keep working and that things would work out how they're supposed to."

Jones has been the starter since winning the job from Manning after week two in 2019, following two losses to the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills in which the two-time Super Bowl winner had struggled.

Jones came in and never looked back, with Manning playing two more times in the season when Jones picked up an ankle injury. The two were seemingly on good terms during that season though, with Manning only having positive words to say about his young replacement.

Jones was reportedly asking for as much as $45million per year earlier this off-season, but did agree to take less to remain with the team on the rise.
