Rebel Wilson awkwardly claimed Meghan Markle isn't as "naturally warm" as Prince Harry - and now some of her fans think they've worked out why.

The Pitch Perfect actress spoke about meeting the Sussexes at their Californian home in Santa Barbara alongside her mother, claiming Harry had been "lovely".

But Rebel didn't extend the same compliment to Meghan while appearing on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live, telling the American host they had a mutual polo player friend.

While Harry "could not have been nicer", Rebel said: "Meghan wasn't as naturally warm, but then, maybe, my mum being Australian asked her all of these slightly rude questions, like 'Where are your kids?' and things like that. And I was like, 'Mum don’t ask her that!'"

While Meghan's mood could have been down to Rebel's mother, some people have suggested the real reason could be a joke she made about Meghan at last year's BAFTAs.

After making a joke about Prince Andrew, the Australian actress then turned her attention to Harry and Meghan.

She made fun of her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which the Sussexes accused an unnamed Royal Family member of racism.

"Our next package is for Outstanding British Film from drama to horror, to fantasy... Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah had it all," joked Rebel.

"Unfortunately that's not nominated in this category but some incredible films are."

Many Meghan fans took to Twitter with the theory after recalling what Rebel had previously said about the duchess.

Rebel Wilson, you seem like a smart girl. And hosting the BAFTAs is a big deal, and likely memorable as host. Don't remember what you said," one Twitter user wrote.

Another added: "I am so confused with this woman? If I recall correctly Rebel Wilson spoke ill of Meghan at the BAFTAs - then expected her to be warm and friendly?"

"Rebel Wilson says Meghan Markle wasn't as 'naturally warm' as Prince Harry after Rebel’s mother asked her a bunch of rude questions," said a third.

Before the BAFTAs took place, Rebel also made a cheeky dig at Harry and Meghan while speaking to This Morning's Alison Hammond.

During an animated chat with Alison, Rebel was asked how she felt about hosting the show and joked about her Australian heritage.

"I don't know. I would say, I have presented awards at the BAFTAs and it's gone pretty well," she told Alison.

Then they shared a clip of West Side Story, which was nominated for a number of BAFTAs that year, while Alison sang along to the lyrics 'I like to be in America, Okay by me in America'.

Rebel joked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex making the US their new home, saying it was "Meghan and Harry's new them song".

The Cats star isn't the only celebrity who has criticised Meghan and Harry in recent weeks.

Chris Rock took aim at the couple during his new comedy special, Selective Outrage, mocking her claims that the royal family were racist in an interview she did with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The American comedian claimed she was merely dealing with "in-law s***" amid her internal family drama with the royals.

"Like who is this girl Meghan Markle," he asked, adding: "Seems like a nice lady – just complaining. Like didn’t she hit the light-skinned lottery?"

Imitating Meghan, he jokingly said: "They're so racist, they're so racist."

He added: "Some of that s*** she went through was not racism; it was just some in-law s***.

"Sometimes, it's just some in-law s*** because she's complaining, I'm like 'What the f*** is she talking about?'"

Rock continued to mock Meghan aby repeating her claims, saying: "'Oprah, they're so racist they wanted to know how brown the baby was going to be' – I'm like, 'That's not racist, because even Black people want to know how brown the baby going to be.'"

The Madagascar voice actor then professed he knew what Markle was "going through", stating: "I know her dilemma: Black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws. Oh, it's hard. It's so hard, it's very hard– but it ain't as hard as a white girl trying to be accepted by her Black in-laws. Now that s**t is really hard."

He then quipped: "Meghan Markle, I know the dilemma. I'm like, 'If you black and you wanted to be accepted by your white in-laws then you need to marry a Kardashian because they accept everybody.'"

The Sussexes are enduring a tough time at the moment - having been kicked out of Frogmore Cottage.

According to Omid Scobie, one of the authors behind the biography of Harry and Meghan, Finding Freedom, the King's decision came after Harry released his controversial memoir Spare in January.

He claimed that the couple was told the property was needed for "someone else" and that relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the Firm was at "an all-time low".

Sources said the King was outraged by a string of Harry's accusations in his controversial memoir, in particular his attacks on his wife, Queen Consort Camilla.

Scobie also said that Harry and Meghan were left "stunned" by the movie, while two other royals have also been left "appalled".

Writing for Yahoo, he explained: "It's news, sources tell me, that has left Harry and Meghan stunned, and at least two members of the Royal Family 'appalled'."

He also quoted a friend of the couple as saying: "It all feels very final and like a cruel punishment. It’s like [the family] want to cut them out of the picture for good."
