Reus fires Borussia Dortmund "pressure" warning as Chelsea face uphill battle

Marco Reus has warned his Borussia Dortmund pals that Tuesday’s game at Chelsea will be the home side’s ‘game of the season’.

Graham Potter and his men have endured a terrible run of form and luck - although they did defeat Leeds 1-0 in the Premier League on Saturday - and the second leg of the two sides’ Champions League round-of-16 clash could yet have major ramifications for the under-fire Blues boss.

Reus knows the importance of the game for Chelsea and that’s why he knows the visitors cannot travel to London with a mindset of trying simply to defend their 1-0 lead.

He said: “People know that Chelsea are not in good moment, but in the first leg they played well and our victory wasn’t easy. Now for Chelsea, this match will be key, it is their match of the season, and that means we can expect an enormous and significant amount of pressure from the first minute.

“I expect a very hard match in London and while our advantage is small, it at least permits us to manage the situation. We are in a good moment and that is positive, although nobody thinks we can go to England and be calm.

“Chelsea have an excellent squad with some very big names and it is very rare that they are not in an excellent position in the Premier League. Now, I hope that Chelsea don’t reawaken this week in London.

“We know the importance of this Tuesday because we are dreaming of going very far in the Champions League. And the key to this game for us will be our mentality.”

Edin Terzic’s Dortmund side have won 10 games on the spin in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and Champions League. And Reus added: “We have rediscovered our best level and, because of this, this match has arrived at a sensational moment for us.”

Dortmund’s latest victory came last Friday, when they defeated RB Leipzig to keep pace with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table. The two great rivals are level on 49 points but the Bavarians - who won 2-1 away at Stuttgart on Saturday - have vastly superior goal difference. The hotly-anticipated 'Klassiker' between Dortmund and Bayern will take place on 1 April.
