LIV Golf star Peter Uihlein has revealed that he is 'much happier' playing on the breakaway circuit, after things didn't 'work out' over on the PGA Tour.

Uihlein has had a successful start to life as a LIV golfer, having secured three top-five finishes - including two runner-up spots - in 2022, whilst also finishing third in the season-long individual ranking. And the American star has certainly carried this impressive form into 2023.

It was another top performance for Uihlein in last week's LIV season-opener at Mayakoba, as he kicked off his 2023 campaign with a second-place finish behind champion Charles Howell III.

It has not always been this simple though, with the American often finding himself towards the wrong end of leaderboards during his latter years on the PGA Tour. Those who made the controversial switch last summer have faced plenty of criticism.

Despite this, Uihlein is more confident he made the right decision. Per Golf Digest, he said: "The reality is I’m just a lot happier playing golf. I wasn’t happy the last few years. It just didn’t really work out for me on the PGA Tour.

"But this [joining LIV Golf] was an unbelievable opportunity for me and my family, and just trying to play well and keep putting good scores up on the board."

And his golf game has also trended in the same direction as his happiness. He added: "I don’t know if it correlates that I’m playing better and I’m happier, or if I’m happier and that helps correlate to me playing better.

"I’m not entirely sure. But things are going well, and I’m thrilled to be out there.”

The 33-year-old came agonisingly close to securing his maiden LIV Golf win in Mexico last weekend, and if it was not for a calamitous triple bogey seven on the par four 12th at Mayakoba he would have been even closer. His downfall came after crashing two snap hook tee shots into the Mexican jungle after trying to make up the difference between himself and leader Howell.

Despite the triple bogey, the American star dusted himself down to play the last six holes in four-under-par to secure his second place finish behind the champion. Remaining Uihlein commented: "Other than one - technically three - bad swings on one hole, it was good. in all, a good week.”
