Russell Grant has praised hospital staff and said that he's still recovering in an update to fans after having a brain tumour removed in a procedure a few months ago.

The astrologer, 72, revealed in December last year that he had a lump removed from his pituitary gland - which is located at the base of the brain - in a five-hour surgery.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant said at the time that the growth had threatened to "blank out" his optic nerve and said that he was "on the road to recovery".

Russell has now issued an update to his fans on Twitter, sharing a post this morning which coincides with the start of Brain Tumour Awareness Month, from March 1 to 31.

He wrote in the tweet: "Before Christmas I had a brain tumour removed by the A-Team Prof Pathmanban, Dr Bhalla, Dr Kearney, the caring nurses & Vicky Walsh of Alex Hospital Manchester & Dr Wilton YG Bangor".

Russell added: "I'm now into recovery on @BrainTumourOrg Day. Thank you all". He also tagged accounts for charity The Pituitary Foundation and Rare Disease Day in the post.

Russell later said in a subsequent tweet that he "didn't want a fuss" when he was going through the ordeal, noting that he had already lost his late mother Jo Grant, who died in 2021.

"Have given me lots of support and comfort since my #prolactinoma diagnosis almost 12 years ago! Am sure they are doing the same for you".

He responded to the supporter: "Tbh I didn't tell them, I didn't want a fuss as I'd already lost my mum - I dealt with it thanks to advice from my amazing friend @russellthevoice my loved ones and [Prof Pathmanaban] and his team".
