Patrick Mahomes' wife destroys Cincinnati Mayor in tweet after Bengals jabs
Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany has hit back at the Cincinnati Mayor after he took to social media to ridicule the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback ahead of the AFC Championship Game.
The Cincinnati Bengals are hoping to return to the Super Bowl for the second successive year - and a familiar foe stands in their path. The Chiefs are set to host the Conference Championship for the fifth straight year with Mahomes at the helm and it will be a repeat of last year’s clash.
A year ago, the Bengals beat the Chiefs 27-24 to reach Super Bowl LVI where they fell to the Los Angeles Rams. They needed an epic overtime win to advance, but star quarterback Joe Burrow is unbeaten against Mahomes in three matches.
Cincinnati is clearly excited and confident ahead of the clash, particularly after Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain in the Divisional Round victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. On Thursday, Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval released a video calling on Burrow to take a paternity test to figure out whether or not he is Mahomes’ father.
Mahomes’ wife Brittany didn't find the joke too funny, and mocked the mayor in a brutal response. She took to Twitter to reply: “WEAK. & embarrassing.”
Joe Burrow backs Patrick Mahomes after Kansas City Chiefs reach Super BowlBrittany has often been spotted at Chiefs games, at one point poured champagne over fans at Arrowhead Stadium, while also complaining the referees don’t favour the Chiefs with big calls. She took time away from social media as a result, but she has returned in time for the biggest game of the season.
Mayor Pureval even tweeted an apology to the city of Cincinnati for his joke, writing: “Bengals nation, Lol. I hear you. My competitive juices and love for cincy [sic] got the best of me. My bad. Staying hungry and humble. See you Sunday. Who Dey baby!”
Brittany may be confident in getting the last laugh though, as Mahomes appears to be more fit for the match than people predicted. Despite the injury, head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Mahomes will start on Sunday and noted that ‘he's moving around good’.
Mahomes was also a full participant in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, while he received no injury designation. His Chiefs host the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night.
