Emma Thompson's daughter 'painful' tribute to mum as she shares unusual tattoo
Gaia Wise has revealed a rather unlikely tribute to her famous mum Emma Thompson as she stepped out at a glitzy event in London.
The budding actress who has appeared in the likes of Silent Witness may be wanting to follow in her parent's footsteps but has spoken about a special tribute for her mum.
Stepping out at the Cirque du Soleil 'Kurios: Cabinet Of Curiosities' premiere earlier this month, Gaia showcased some new body art in the shape of a footprint on the side of her rib cage.
Now, the 23-year-old has revealed the inspiration behind her new inking and it has a special meaning.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, she said: "The tattoo was taken from a print that my parents did when I was born and shows my mum's big foot next to my baby foot.
Kate Winslet recalls 'weird' sex scenes with Leo DiCaprio in front of husband"It was very painful because I got it on the ribs, it was the first one I had done, and, obviously, the more tattoos you have the less adrenaline your body produces, so it's more painful."
Gaia explained that the tattooist behind her art asked if she wanted to carry on but she insisted, adding: "It's very special to me and my mum loves it."
But despite their close bond, Emma hasn't been particularly fond of Gaia following in her footsteps and becoming an actress.
Speaking previously, Emma explained to the publication that she had encouraged her daughter to venture into a new career, joking that "running a restaurant can be as exciting".
Although she has been extremely vocal when it comes to supporting Gaia's career after making her Kornit Fashion Week debut while modelling clothes designed by Julia Clancey.
Speaking after the epic fashion show, Emma exclusively told The Mirror of her daughter's performance: "I loved it, it was amazing."
Referring to Gaia's fashion choices, she added: "I think what she loves is Julia's style, which is very diverse and inclusive and sustainable."
As well as modelling, Gaia also has a budding film career and has starred alongside her mum in A Walk in the Woods and Last Chance Harvey, and has also taken to the stage for a part in the West End's Sweeney Todd.
Emma and Gaia's dad, Greg Wise have previously spoken about staging an intervention while their daughter was suffering from anorexia.
She later took to Instagram to share that she "wouldn't have been able to complete this journey" without several "incredible humans".
