Ryan Reynolds has made it clear that he wants to take Wrexham to the Premier League.

The National League side's profile has grown massively in recent years following the takeover of two Hollywood stars. Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney are the men behind the non-league side's major ambitions, which could take a notable step this season.

Wrexham sit top of the National League, three points clear of Notts County. Promotion would be the first major achievement since Reynolds' involvement, but he has plans to take the outfit much higher with the top flight is eventual goal as he underlined his commitment.

He told ESPN : "That's what you see from Premier League clubs, Championship League clubs. "We want to walk the walk, even as a fifth-tier club. We say this all the time, but we want to be in the Premier League, as crazy as that sounds to some people. If it is theoretically possible to go from the fifth tier in professional football all the way to the Premier League, why wouldn't we do that? Why wouldn't we use our last drop of blood to get there? We're in it for the ride. This is a multidecade project."

Last term Wrexham finished second but were unable to earn promotion via the play-offs, eventually losing to Grimsby. Teams have been known to accelerate through the football pyramid, but going from non-league to the Premier League is unheard of in the modern day.

Salford City, co-owned by the Class of 92, have attempted to march through the football pyramid, aided by major investment, but have failed to make it out of League Two since earning promotion several years ago. Wrexham's owners have been able to support the club financially, which has allowed them to build an impressive squad that includes the club-record purchase of Ollie Palmer, who joined from AFC Wimbledon last year.

Reynolds has been vocal on social media about the emotional turmoil that comes with following football. He's been open however about the effect it has had on his life.

"Two years ago, I didn't have this kind of passion for the sport, and in some ways, I see it as a plague. In other ways, I see it as the greatest introduction that's ever been made to me, at least from a sports perspective. It's wild. I wish it didn't dominate as many of my thoughts and deeds as it does these days, but you don't make anything great without enthusiasm, they say," he added.

Wrexham are among the lowest ranked sides still in the FA Cup having upset Coventry in the third round. Their reward is a clash against second tier Sheffield United, whom they face on Sunday at the Racecourse Ground.
