A teenager has been killed after being hit by two cars in a tragic road crash in Rotherham.

The crash happened in Thurcroft, Rotherham, at around 6.30 on Thursday night when the 14-year-old boy was hit by a grey Honda.

A second car, a a white Citroen which was travelling in the opposite direction, then also hit the teen.

Emergency services were called and tried desperately to save the boy, but tragically he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet named the youngster, but confirmed his family have been told of his death and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

It's understood that the drivers of both cars stopped at the scene to call emergency services and are now helping police with their investigation.

South Yorkshire Police said they are now looking for anyone who may have caught dashcam footage or CCTV which could help them.

A spokesperson for the force said: "It is believed a grey Honda CR-V was travelling towards Thurcroft when it collided with the boy.

"A second vehicle, a white Citroen DS3, travelling towards Laughton, was then involved in a further collision with the boy.

"Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the boy, aged 14, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

The spokesperson added: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who was driving in the area at the time and saw the boy to get in touch.

"We are particularly keen to hear from those with dashcam footage."
