Love Island fans mock 'inaccurate' 90s themed party after decades 'mixed up'

Love Island fans were left unimpressed after its young stars attended a 90’s party - but didn’t stick to the theme as they turned up in the 'wrong' clothes and busted out some 70s moves.

Most of the stars of the hit ITV2 reality series were born in the mid to late 90s, and it wasn’t lost on viewers that none of them understood what a 90s rave would have been like.

While the islanders were living it up in the Cape Town villa and delighted with the party, viewers were quick to point out that the stars didn’t appreciate the nostalgic throwback or even understand the brief at all.

One confused fan took to Twitter and wrote: “Did they say a 90s party?? Were they even born in the 90s and Shaq was doing dance moves from the 70s. Boy bye.”

As another viewer agreed: “He talking about a 90s party but doing 70s dance moves…”

A third added: “These lot are too young man, they said 90s party so he starts doing 70s dance moves.”

As a fourth joked: “SHAQ. No idea how peeps danced in the 90s, pulling out the 70’s night fever moves.”

“Them kicking out the two islanders born in the 2000s and then throwing a 90s party lmao,” another viewer tweeted, as another said: “When the Love Island contestants are so young they’ve no idea what a 90s rave was.”

It wasn’t just the dance moves that left viewers wondering if the contestants were born after the millennium, but their contemporary outfits too.

The islanders opted for skinny jeans, bucket hats and PVC outfits, which left fans confused what era they were all supposed to be dressing from.

One viewer joked: “These outfits are giving me PLT clearance sale than 90s vibes,” as a second said: “Us 90s babies actually watching these non-90s inspired outfit choices.”

Another fan wrote in despair: “The girls outfits aren’t giving 90s at all :( i love themed parties it pains me when people don’t stick to the theme.”

“These outfits couldn’t be less 90s themed if they tried,” a fourth added, as one user was particularly insulted: “Go BACK to the 90s? That’s it for us guys. The last season I can watch #loveisland – Too old for this!”
