Police have arrested a British-Iranian on suspicion of a terror offence following the incident near RAF Fairford.

A 27-year-old dual UK-Iranian national, from London, was detained earlier today, Counter Terror Policing (CTP) confirmed.

A second 26-year-old man, a UK national, has been questioned under caution.

Two properties have been searched in the same area, police added.

A spokesman for CTP said: "Counter Terrorism Policing has this afternoon (Thursday 1 October) made a further arrest in the investigation into activity that took place close to RAF Fairford on Sunday.

"A 27-year-old man, a dual UK/Iranian national, was arrested in the Borough of Westminster, London, on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

"A second man, 26, who is a UK national, has also been questioned under caution.

"Searches of two properties have also been carried out in the same area"

Meanwhile, the Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, Vicki Evans, reiterated they were assessing "all possible angles" regarding the ongoing probe.

She said: "The investigation into circumstances surrounding events in Gloucestershire is hugely complex, and our specialist teams are interrogating multiple lines of enquiry.

"As we’ve made clear, we’re looking at all possible angles – including possible foreign state involvement.

"I’d like to thank the public for their continued support and patience whilst we work through this investigation."

In the wake of the incident, five men were arrested on suspicion of explosives offences, and later terror offences.

A local farmer alerted the emergency services after spotting three suspicious vehicles accompanied by a group of masked men.

The five men - all in their 20s and from London - were released on police bail earlier this week.

Yesterday afternoon, Andy Burnham said there were "strong indications that Iran played a part" in the weekend incident.

Speaking to GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Mr Burnham said: "It is, though, still an ongoing and very serious police investigation.

"So I hope you’ll understand that I don’t say more at this point, but I wanted to confirm what we can say.

"This will continue now. It’s obviously a very serious investigation involving our colleagues in the United States, and we are working very closely with them."

The Prime Minister’s comments came just a few days after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the incident "clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor" – but did not specify which country.

The Islamic Republic has categorically denied involvement in the terror plot.
