Dutch police arrest ShinyHunters suspect accused of plotting two murders abroad

Dutch Police have announced the arrest of a 24-year-old alleged member of the cybercrime group ShinyHunters that has been responsible for a string of major data breaches, including the hacking of an FBI website last week.

In a statement Tuesday, police said that following the suspect’s arrest last week that they found information on his laptop revealing that he was arranging two murders abroad. Police added that this alleged plot “is not related to the investigation into ShinyHunters.” The statement did not disclose the suspect’s name. 

Addressing the ShinyHunters group directly in a video statement, , FBI’s Cyber Division Assistant Director Brett Leatherman urged the hacking group to surrender to authorities. “To the remaining members of ShinyHunters: You’ve heard about the arrest of your colleague,” Leatherman said.
