Colombia arrests two women linked to Los Choneros boss "Fito" in joint operation
Colombian authorities arrested two Ecuadorian women suspected of helping manage the finances of a major transnational criminal organization, Ecuadorian police said Sunday.
The women were detained in Sabana de Torres during a joint operation involving police from both nations, Colombia’s GAULA anti-kidnapping unit and the FBI. Ecuadorian authorities described both women as high-value targets and said they are believed to be the wife and daughter of the alleged crime boss José Adolfo Macías Villamar, known as “Fito.”
Macías formerly led Los Choneros, an Ecuador-based criminal organization involved in cocaine trafficking, firearms trafficking and violent crime. He was recaptured in Ecuador in June 2025 and extradited to the United States the following month, where he faces federal drug and firearms charges. Ecuadorian prosecutors have separately investigated alleged money laundering involving his family circle, saying suspicious transactions worth more than $2 million entered the country’s financial system between 2016 and 2023.
