Massive fire breaks out at hotel believed to house migrants near Wembley Stadium
A massive inferno has broken out at a hotel, believed to be housing migrants, just yards away from Wembley Stadium.
The London Fire Brigade received the first of 29 calls reporting the blaze at the alleged migrant hotel at around 12.30 this afternoon.
Crews rushed to the Holiday Inn, on Empire Way, Wembley and managed to bring the blaze under control around an hour after arriving.
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were scrambled to fight the flames.
The Home Office said that it could not comment on the use of the hotel as migrant accommodation.
Closed to guests, the Holiday Inn was being used as asylum seeker accommodation in August last year.
Images and video captured by shocked bystanders show a thick plume of black smoke rising into the air above the migrant hotel.
Firefighters were seen administering first aid to evacuated hotel guests, holding oxygen masks up to their mouths.
Further images show what appear to be members of the public assisting fire crews with hydrants in the street as they scramble to get water on the burning building.
Crews can be seen using ladders to douse the flames in water as the fire burns behind them.
Images of the aftermath of the fire show exterior walls of the building blackened and charred by the heat of the blaze.
It remains unclear what sparked the inferno at this time.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said it had launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
LFB said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters responded to a fire at a hotel on Empire Way, Wembley.
“The Brigade received the first of 29 calls reporting the fire at 1234.
“Control officers mobilised crews from Park Royal, Willesden, Northolt and surrounding fire stations to the scene.
“Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 1321.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
