Lawyer defending Ilir Meta exposed over drug trafficking conviction and mafia links
After 1 year of legal representation for the arrested defendant Ilir Meta, lawyer Kujtim Cakrani has announced the termination of legal representation of his client in the Special Court, because he has lost the client’s trust and cooperation.
This was a statement from a law firm, but on TV A2 CNN, Kujtim Cakrani stated that Ilir Meta called him a "patronageist" in the Zvërnec case, because he was engaged as a lawyer for Artur Shehu, a land grabber in Vlora, an international trafficker and money launderer with luxury buildings.
Kujtim Cakrani said: "I have defended and will defend Artur Shehu and his family’s interests in the face of justice, because in addition to the lawyer-client relationship, I have family ties with him."
It is not a violation of the law or a violation of the moral image of a lawyer when he engages to represent a client in the Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK, the court, or in public institutions, especially a relative of his, whether a drug trafficker, land thief, or murderer like Artur Shehu, because he pays very well.

But in this specific case, in addition to the family connection, lawyer Kujtim Cakrani and his mafia client Artur Shehu, now wanted by SPAK as the head of the "ARUBA" group, have a similar and common history in drug trafficking.
Lawyer Kujtim Cakrani was sentenced to 2 years in prison for international heroin trafficking in Italy, arrested on July 18, 2007 through Operation "Medusa", along with 14 other traffickers, as an organized trafficking group in Salento, Puglia during 2004-2005.

Those were the years when his relative Artur Shehu had an organized drug trafficking group with bases of activity in Italy and Albania, which was also connected to the trafficking group that included Kujtim Cakrani, alias Shpëtim Cakrani.
When he was arrested and convicted at the age of 36 in Italy, Kujtim Cakrani had his birth name Shpëtim Cakrani, father’s name Luftar, mother’s name Burbuqe, and with this identity he was sentenced to 2 years in prison.

After returning to Albania, he changed his name to "Kujtim Cakrani" to avoid being kept under surveillance by law enforcement agencies and to escape the restrictions and sanctions of the anti-mafia law.
Today, trafficker Shpëtim Cakrani is "his own hand" lawyer Kujtim Cakrani, who is serving as the defense attorney of land grabber and trafficker Artur Shehu, filed as "prime minister of the ARUBA government", who designated lands and projects for towers, palaces, hotels, resorts and dictated construction permits to the official prime minister Edi Rama.
Convicted twice in Albania
With Decision No. 181, dated July 14, 2005, the Fier Court sentenced the trafficker lawyer Kujtim Cakrani, alias Shpëtim Cakrani, to 2 years in prison and a 500 thousand lek fine, but the High Court converted it to 3 years of probation.
With Decision No. 85, dated February 19, 2016, the Vlora Court of First Instance sentenced the trafficker lawyer Kujtim Cakrani to a fine of 200 thousand lek for the criminal offense of "Assault due to duty", a decision that was upheld by the Vlora Court of Appeal.
