Stand Lane, Radcliffe sealed off as armed suspect triggers police standoff
Police have issued a fresh statement after counter-terrorism officers were seen ’pointing guns at a building’ amid a major emergency response on Monday afternoon.
Armed officers raced to reports of a ’disturbance’ at a property on Stand Lane in Radcliffe at around 2.15pm. The area was later cordoned off amid the response, which focused around a building close to the junction of Jackson Street.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident was not counter-terror related and was being treated as ’isolated’. The force later revealed that threats had been made by a suspect with a knife at a property.
A force spokesperson said: "We are responding to an incident on Stand Lane, Radcliffe following reports of a disturbance at around 2:15pm today. It was reported that threats were being made at an address and the suspect is believed to have been in possession of a bladed weapon.
"Thankfully, those at the property managed to get to a place of safety and no injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made and our officers are on scene to manage any potential risk.
"We can also confirm that this is an isolated incident and is not being treated as counter terrorism related. Enquiries are ongoing at this time."
Officers in bulletproof vests and with riot shields were seen ’pointing’ guns at a property along Stand Lane as people were ushered away from the area. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
