Sarah Ferguson is facing calls to give evidence to the US Congress investigation of Jeffrey Epstein.

American politicians have repeatedly called for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, her former husband, to answer questions about his links to the late financier and paedophile.

Ms Ferguson, 66, is being urged to do the same, with representatives saying they believe she may have information relevant to their inquiries.

Suhas Subramanyam, a member of the US House oversight committee investigating Epstein, said: “Sarah Ferguson should give sworn testimony to our committee.”

While there is no legal mechanism to compel Ms Ferguson to testify in the US, Mr Subramanyam said his committee would be “happy to work out terms that work for her”, as long as she was under oath.

“If Ferguson or any member of their family has such information, our responsibility is to follow the facts wherever they lead,” she said.

The family of the late Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most prominent victims, also said they “strongly believed” the former Duchess of York should go to the US to answer questions.

“If Ferguson knows anything, she should testify in the US immediately,” a representative for Sky Roberts, Giuffre’s brother, told the BBC.

The calls for the former Duchess of York to give evidence came after details emerged about her friendship with Epstein from the millions of documents released by the US department of justice (DoJ) earlier this year.

In one email from August 2009, she praised him as “the brother I have always wished for”. In another exchange that year, she joked with Epstein about another woman: “You can marry her too. She is single and a great body.”

Ms Ferguson visited Epstein five days after he was released from prison for child sex crimes in 2009, taking her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie with her, the emails suggested.

She apparently waited less than a week to see the paedophile, who was under house arrest. Eugenie and Beatrice would have been 19 and 20 at the time.
