British lawyer-to-be June Bunyan, 37, killed in California home
The heartbroken family of a British woman killed in the US is facing a huge bill to bring her body home.
June Bunyan, 37, suffered ’traumatic neck injuries’ at her California home and died on September 11.
She had left her former home on the Isle of Arran in Scotland to pursue her dream of becoming a defence lawyer.
June had graduated with a law degree from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 2022.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder – while June’s family is left trying to raise money to repatriate her remains.
They have so far raised more than £5,700 after friend Vicky Tulika set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of June’s parents Jill and Lyle.
Vicky explained: ‘With unimaginable heartbreak, we share the devastating news that our beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, June Bunyan, was tragically taken from us due to a violent crime in the United States.
‘Our lives are forever changed. She was only 37.
‘June was known for her vibrant personality, infectious laugh, and deeply compassionate heart.
‘Exceptionally accomplished, she held multiple degrees, but her proudest achievement was earning her law degree.
‘Driven by courage and determination, June moved to America to sit the bar exam and pursue her dream of becoming a defense attorney. She worked tirelessly to build herself a better life.
‘June’s life was cut short so far from home, and we are now faced with the heartbreaking task of bringing her back to the UK.
‘She can then be laid to rest with the dignity and love she deserves, surrounded by family and friends.’
Suspect 25-year-old Jonathan Renteria was arrested on suspicion of June’s murder hours after the killing, the Scottish Sun reports.
He has also been charged with ’mutilation, disinterment, sexual contact with human remains’.
Renteria was placed in Twin Towers Correctional Facility with a bail of $4 million (£2.9 million).
