Lisburn murder probe: two arrested after man’s death
A murder investigation has commenced following the death of a man in Lisburn.
The 42-year-old victim was found with serious injuries at a flat building on Wardsborough Road in the city centre on Monday morning.
He received medical treatment at the scene and was transported to the hospital, where he later died.
A 38-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.
Detective Inspector Jill Angus said: "Although our investigation is at an early stage, we are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and to determine exactly what happened."
She explained that officers received a call for assistance at the property from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service just before 01:00 BST on Monday.
Detective Inspector Angus stated the two individuals in custody were "assisting detectives with their inquiries" and she appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
"The community can expect to see an increased police presence in the Wardsborough area as officers conduct further inquiries into what happened," she added.
Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Lynch told BBC News NI it was "tragic" that a man had died and his "thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victim".
He added he would urge anyone with any information to contact the police to help them with their investigation.
Alliance Councillor Nicola Parker said: "I am deeply saddened to learn about this horrifying incident, and my sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.
"This tragic incident has left many residents in the community feeling shocked and distressed, but I am confident they will unite during this challenging time."
Cordons remain in place near the scene and a police car was parked outside the apartment building on Monday night.
