Iran orders death for woman activist in shock court U-turn
Iran’s Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of labor activist Sharifah Mohammadi, nearly a year after overturning the verdict due to lack of evidence, according to the Norway-based rights group Hengaw.
Her lawyer, Amir Raeesian, said the ruling came from the same court branch that had rejected the case in October 2024.
Mohammadi, 37, was arrested in December 2023 and sentenced to death on charges of armed rebellion for allegedly belonging to an opposition group. Raeesian said he will continue seeking a retrial.
Hengaw reported that Iran executed at least 617 people in the first half of 2025, including 18 women and one child.
