The explosion occurred after the country’s leader’s convoy left his palace and headed towards the airport in Mogadishu.

In Somalia, the Salafist terrorist group "Al-Shabaab" detonated a bomb targeting the convoy of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. This was reported by the Somali Guardian.

The "Al-Shabaab" group claims to have detonated a bomb targeting the convoy of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud right after he left the presidential palace heading for the Mogadishu airport. There are casualties, the publication reports.

The incident occurred at the El-Gaabta junction near the Somali presidential palace in Mogadishu, where the explosion was heard.

Law enforcement officials reported casualties as a result of the explosion. The area has been cordoned off by security forces.

According to Hussein Sheikh Ali, Somalia’s national security advisor, the president "is safe and is currently traveling across the country to oversee important work in various regions. This nation will not be subjected to lies, exaggerated claims, or deceitful tactics," he said.
