Dozens of people have been killed or injured after a fire broke out at a club in North Macedonia.

According to local media reports, the fire broke out at around 3am local time this morning at Club Pulse in Kocani.

The blaze broke out and spread to the ceiling and roof of the club, which burned quickly.

Footage posted on social media shows a building up in flames and smoke billowing up into the night sky.

More images taken from the scene and posted by social media outlets show the orange blaze spreading across the ceiling, while other images show firefighters carrying people out of the club.

Macedonian television channel, Kanal 5, said Minister of Interior, Pance Toshkovski, is at the scene of the accident while Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is also on his way.

The station reported that there was a ‘stampede’ after the fire broke out, which resulted in a ‘number’ of injuries, including burns and suffocation.

In a statement, the public prosecutor’s office said: ‘The number of victims and injured in the fire is being determined.’

Kocani is located in the eastern part of North Macedonia and is around 62 miles east of Skopje, the capital.

The latest census from 2021 said there are around 24,600 people who live there.
