Man ran over two people after McDonald’s argument and fled the scene
Glenn Hobbs, of Forefield Green, Chelmsford, in Essex, was sentenced to more than nine years behind bars after he admitted to deliberately hitting two men with his car
A man deliberately drove into two people at a McDonald’s car park following an argument at the drive-thru.
Glenn Hobbs, of Forefield Green, Chelmsford, Essex, was 29 at the time of the attack. He had been arguing with a man in his 70s in his Mini Cooper at the drive-thru of McDonalds at about 9:25pm on December 18, 2023.
At one point a witness described Hobbs grabbing the victim by the throat before they were able to get out of the passenger seat. As he walked away from the car and to a nearby petrol station, Hobbs deliberately drive into the man, striking him from behind and knocking him to the ground.
A second man who saw the attack tried to stop Hobbs but was also injured when he drove at him as well. The man in his 70s sustained several serious injuries and was quickly rushed to Addenbrooke’s for treatment.

Hobbs fled the scene in Drovers Way, Chelmsford, as police chased him for more than two hours. Following an extensive search the car was located and Hobbs was apprehended.
Hobbs was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and actual bodily harm and was remanded in custody. Hobbs pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court on December 9, 2024. He was sentenced to nine years and two months in prison at the same court on February 14, 2025.
"This could easily have been a murder investigation - Hobbs struck his victim with a car, fully aware he could kill him," Sergeant James Pamment said. "Despite the clear dangers of the assault, this case required a meticulous investigation to ensure Hobbs was left with no choice but to plead guilty when he reached court.

"CCTV enquires supported by the statements of witnesses at the scene track Hobbs and one of the victims to the restaurant before the attack. It left no doubt that it was Hobbs in the Mini, and that Hobbs had already assaulted his passenger before he left the car.
"I hope the conclusion of this court case can bring some closure for the victims affected in this incident. Hobbs is now serving a lengthy prison sentence to consider his decisions that night."
