Man charged following the death of ’sweetest’ 3-year-old girl in Manchester tram accident

A man has been charged after the death of a three-year-old girl in Manchester who was hit by a van when it mounted the pavement.

Louisa Palmisano was hit by the van after it collided with the tram and then mounted the pavement on Mosley Street, which shut down Manchester city centre on Saturday.

Louisa, known as Lulu, was rushed to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries.

The three-year-old from Burnley had been out with her parents when tragedy struck.

Now, a man has been charged following the young girl’s death.

Rawal Rehman, 35, of Lambton Road, Manchester, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Her parents paid tribute to the ‘sweetest, kindest, and most generous little girl.’

They said: ‘‘She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day.

‘Her absence has left a devastating void in our family—she was our only child, our whole world.

‘We were simply enjoying a happy family day out in Manchester when this unimaginable tragedy struck. In an instant, our lives were shattered beyond repair.

‘The pain of losing her is unbearable, and we miss her more than words can ever express.’

Mr Rehman will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today.
