A 90-year-old British woman and her son have been found dead at their home in Spain.

Their bodies were found in Alhaurin el Grande, a half-hour drive inland from the Costa del Sol resort of Fuengirola.

Concern was raised by local social services who asked police to send officers around to their home.

Officers forced their way into the home and the elderly woman is believed to have starved to death and her son, 63, died of natural causes.

The Civil Guard says both died of natural causes and there are no suspicious circumstances into their deaths.

The woman’s son was a registered carer and it is not clear if he had health problems.

The news comes after two British pensioners, aged 82 and 74, were found dead at their Costa Blanca home last Thursday.

Their bodies were found in San Fulgencio by firefighters and the man and woman were friends according to police sources.

They lived on a residential estate popular with pensioners.

Staff from social services raised the alarm and there were no signs of violence in the home.

A post-mortem found they had both died of natural causes but both are believed to have suffered chronic illnesses and were seen as ‘vulnerable’ by social services.
